Funk: The Sound of Dayton

Writer, Production Manager, Sound Editor, Composer

This documentary served as my senior year capstone project. I contributed to this project by serving as the head writer, conducting an interview, researching, organizing my fellow classmates and helping to achieve deadlines, and writing and recording the original music. Together, my classmates and I used the skills we had learned over our four years to create a documentary that strives to be as vibrant and creative as the community it's about. Completed April 2024.

I participated in the Dayton Independent Film Festival's 2024 48 Hour Film Festival Challenge. My teammates and I won first prize and created a short film I'm proud of about Edward and his struggle to fit into the world around him. Completed April 2024.

Funk: The Sound of Dayton (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Funk_The Sound of Dayton_Final Poster.png

Composer, Producer, Performer

As a team member of my senior year capstone project, I composed, recorded, and played on the soundtrack for our documentary about funk's history in the city of Dayton. I drew inspiration from the funk legends of the city to create a soundtrack that honored the key elements of funk music -- syncopation, groovy bass lines, and fun -- while still serving as a supporting element for the on-screen visuals. I had the pleasure of collaborating with several University of Dayton musicians, paying homage to the collaborative spirit of both funk music and the city of Dayton. Completed May 2024.

The Girl Next Door (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Composer, Producer

I created this soundtrack for the 2024 short film The Girl Next Door. By using hollow synths, dissonance, and motifs for the two main characters, I was able to create a soundtrack that amplified the emotion of the story and personified the characters in a unique way. I was also able to work with the director to compose music that responded to on-screen cues, which was an exciting new opportunity. Completed March 2024.

The Elevator (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Composer, Producer

This soundtrack was a joint project with my co-composer, Patrick Grobbel. All of the music featured in the second season were original compositions, including the theme song, which I wrote and revamped for the second second season. Completed May 2022.

A Bitter Taste of Truth (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Composer, Producer

I, once again, had the honor of being asked to the senior documentary produced by the University of Dayton's documentary class in 2023. This album was my first venture into recording and mixing live instruments. To achieve a minimal, yet effective sound, the score was constrained to the violin and the piano. Using the two instruments, I was able to create a wide range of emotion to enhance the storytelling of the documentarians. Completed May 2023.

Shattered: A City Under Pressure (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Composer, Producer

I was asked to write a soundtrack for the documentary produced by the University of Dayton's documentary class, which serves as a senior capstone class for media production majors. I used different orchestral instruments and a repeating motif to illustrate the ever-changing but persisting strength and beauty of the city of Dayton, which was the focus of the documentary. The documentary was awarded the 2022 Ohio Valley Regional College Student Production Award for Best Non-Fiction, Long Form. Completed April 2022.
